Dance in the Park
Franz Christoph Janneck (1703 - 1761)
Framesize 46.30 x 53.50 x 6.00 cm
Dance in the Park shows a company in the shade under trees before an arbour, enjoying music, dancing and a richly-decked table. Two statues of satyrs symbolise lustfulness and love of wine. The theme of Bacchantic revelry is emphasised by the wicker bottle lying on the ground. Janneck dispenses with showing a palace façade or a pavilion, in favour of an extensive park landscape. On the terrace, a fountain with a mountain range in the background forms a vanishing-point at the end of a double row of high poplars. With traditional chiaroscuro, hazy, evocative landscapes and delicate-hued clothing, Janneck’s paintings follow the development to rococo.
